Dum dum dum dum, ooh oou ooo You get the picture (that was supposed to be the doctor who theme tune by the way..)
For his birthday party we decided on a Doctor Who sleepover with two friends (what also love Doctor who)
So what better could we make him, than a tardis cake.
I love baking, but to be honest sugar craft stuff does terrify me somewhat, it is so fiddly. My fingers just aren't nimble enough, my husband on the other hand has quite dexterous fingers.
On Monday I was at home sick from work with tonsilitis and OH wasn't working because it was raining (he is a gardener)
So, we decided to make the cake
For the sponge I did the usual Delia all in one recipe, just double the amounts to this
I put the mixture into a large rectangle tin and popped in the oven 170 degrees for about 30 minutes
Let the sponge cool and cut the sponge in half and sandwiched together with chocolate fudge frosting, I also added this all over the outside of the cake.
Then we had bought 2 packs 250g of renshaws ready to roll icing in navy blue, so started to soften and roll this out.
First we roughly covered the outside of the cake
And then slowly cut out pieces to layer up on top of the others, to start with we really were not sure it was going to look good, but as we kept working (me cutting and hubby adding to the cake) it really started to come together
And ta dah, all finished! The tardis cake
