The weather this bank holiday weekend was glorious, a good 18-20 degrees. I also had the Tuesday and Wednesday off work as well. But on Tuesday when we woke up and the weather had turned cold and rainy, great.
So, we decided to go to the woods and do one of the items on the National Trust 50 things to do before you are 11 3/4. Number 12 Make a trail with sticks.
Hubby also was not working because of the rain, so we decided to split into 2 teams - girls and boys.
We went to Ogden Water in Halifax, a local reservoir and nature reserve.
We decided the boys would go ahead and start to make the trail with sticks and myself and C would give them a 10 minute head start, so we sat in the car and ate our lunch. The rain had subsided, for the moment.
10 minutes passed, and we set off looking for the trail. We had decided earlier they would only lay sticks when there was an alternative path, so if it was straight on they would not have a marker.
Down the path we came to our first arrow pointing off the main path, it was brilliant, looking for the clues.
Moving out of the wooded area, I think they maybe somewhere close...
And there they are!
Pictures taken by hubby, they were laying the trail
And the walk back was lovely also
We did look at some wonderful woodland, saw a LOT of black slugs and great plants. We also saw a lot of lovely ferns unravelling
So, a really fun way to spend and few hours. Something we would never have done if it wasn't for the 50 things, but we will be doing again!
