This week for How does your garden grow, I wanted to show you our visit to Manchester on Saturday, for the Dig the City event. Dig the city was an urban garden festival. Within the city there were pop up show gardens, and other initiatives, we also saw the National Trust and did some of the 50 things with them.
The event seemed to be aimed at getting people living in urban areas to garden more. To encourage bees and other pollinating insects into urban spaces. It is the first event that has been held, and I am sure there will be many more.
Friends of the Earth, they are campaigning for the bee cause and were in the city, a poor man was dressed up like a bee and looked rather warm. If you get chance pop along to their website and sign the petition if you can.
The kids were given a bee chart by Friends of the Earth so whilst we were walking at show gardens the kids were looking at bees and could spot which ones they had seen. We saw a lot of honeybees which was great.
Here are some photos from our afternoon
Linking up to Mammasaurus, check out how other gardens are growing.
