I love plants as you may have gathered if you read my blog regularly. We are having a bathroom refurb and I want to add some plants, but we have very limited space.
I wanted to have some hanging terrariums, they would save space and also add something living into a small space.
I looked online and you can buy them as a kit. But as costs were going up and up for the bathroom refurb I decided to make them myself.
Here is how I did it.
Hanging glass balls (I bought them from ebay and used the 8cm diameter kind) Vey small succulent plants Gravel invisible thread
First I took them glass balls and lined the bottom with compost
I took small sedum plants and added them into the ball. This is quite fiddly, I found putting in smaller pieces of sedum / succulents are easier than 1 larger one.
I arranged the plants to how I like them, and then added the gravel to the top, covering all of the compost and trying not to move the plants too much.
In total I made three.
I am very happy with them, can't wait for them to be added into the bathroom (when it is finally finished..)
The moisture in the bathroom from showers and baths should be enough to keep them watered, but I will need to keep an eye on this.
In total it cost £6.95 for 2 glass balls = £10.43 for 3 1 sedum plant £2.49 Other sedum plants (free from garden) Gravel (free, left over from fish tank) Invisible thread £0.95
This is a lot cheaper than buying the kits, and a lot more fun to put together yourself.
It is very easy, why don't you have a go?
