The Dream

This is a post I never thought I would write (or photograph) About 7 years ago, I put my name on the list for the local allotments.

It is a self managed site of about 40 plots, and plots don't come up very often.

Every year the allotment would phone and ask if I still wanted my name on the list 'yes' was always my response.

Last Thursday (1 week ago) I got a phone call to say a plot was available and my name was at the top of the list.

Yes, I may have squeeled down the phone.

On Sunday we went to see the site, this is what we saw.

Weeds everywhere.

Hidden amongst the weeds there seemed to be some gems.

The site is a great size and hidden are a lot of raised beds already made - perfect.

Look, there seems to be some squash in-between all the grass.

So after lunch we went back to the plot and pulled out some weeds. After only a few hours, the site looked so much better.

Still a lot of work to do, but at least you can see the plot now.

We have 14 raised beds.

The walkways need sorting and de weeding and some bark put down.

I need to make a compost bin, and somewhere to sit.

The lovely man on the next plot said I can share his shed to store my tools.

I am so very happy.

And after a day at the plot, bringing these home was very satisfying.

I have started planning in my head for next year, and the things I need to put in place over Autumn / Winter to get next year off to a good start.

I really can't believe how lucky I am!
